School Coach Trips to Diggerland

A structured school trip, club or group visit to a Diggerland Adventure Park can be as educational as it is enjoyable and entertaining.

At DIGGERLAND, students & pupils and other visiting clubs & groups get to enjoy hands-on experience of driving and/or operating real diggers and dumpers in a variety of fun and innovative ways as well as enjoying thrills and spills on all the other specially adapted rides and drives.

There are currently four UK Diggerland Adventure Parks from which to choose for your school trip, club or group visit destination, these being: Kent, Devon, Durham and Yorkshire.

Our coach trips to DIGGERLAND allow students, pupils and groups to get practical experience of what it is like being “180” & “360” excavators’ operators and dumper and backhoe-loader drivers, and they will also gain an idea of some of the dangers and hazards of working on construction sites with or near large heavy-plant, allowing teachers to explain and stress the importance of knowing and following the appropriate Health & Safety at Work procedures and practices.

Other topics that can be covered include:
  • Overview of the different types & sizes of large heavy-plant and their applications
  • The principles, mechanics and applications of hydraulics
  • How clutches and gearboxes work and their various uses
  • Centre of Gravity – and how this might affect a machine’s stability
  • Footprint and Ground Bearing Pressure
  • The different types of suspension and why suspension is necessary
  • Tyre types, tread patterns and pressures and how these can affect a machine’s traction and performance
National Curriculum:

The above can also be related, for assessment purposes, to these NC subjects at KS 1 & 2: Mathematics; Science, and; Design & Technology

Pupils & students, and other club & group members also get to drive & operate:

Backhoe Loaders (JCB 3CX); Excavators (diggers); Dumpers; Skid Steer Loaders, and; 4×4 cars (Mitsubishi Pajero), and for even more fun: the Diggerland Dodgems; Go-Karts, and; Mini Land Rovers.
