At National Express Transport Solutions, we have asked the team for their best recommendations for a family day out and here are the top 5 places that we think you should visit...
Leeds Castle is definitely a location to spend a full fun-packed day out no matter your age- it’s perfect for everyone in the family! Get exploring within the Castle, its gardens and the museums to learn the history and take in the natural surroundings. Take on the challenge of the Castle Maze that consists of 2,400 yew trees with only one way out! Once you have reached the maze’s exit, to return back to civilisation you must travel underground through a grotto of macabre forms and mythical creatures formed from shells, minerals and wood - it’s truly magical!
Covering 500 acres of land are the local woodlands, parklands and lakes which are the natural habitats for the local wildlife. Within the grounds, there is a Birds of Prey Centre where demonstrations and falconry displays are shown to the public to learn more about the local flying residents. Time will fly by with all this fun! Fancy taking your feet off the ground and flying through the air? Well, you and the family can now experience a treetop adventure with Go Ape! Perfect for thrill-seekers looking for a little extra adventure - especially on a 250-meter-long zip line! Fun for all the family Leeds Castle is a must this Autumn half term!
Another family favourite is a fun and adventurous day out at Port Lympne Safari Park. Make sure you bring your walking boots and binoculars to go searching for all types of animals from around the world including gorillas, giraffes, lions and the largest herd of Black Rhinos in the UK! Port Lympne covers over 600 acres of land and is an ideal space for animals to explore! Don’t worry though- they don’t expect you to walk the whole distance- a free safari truck will take you around and stop at all the good hiding spots and a guide will tell you all there is to know!
Port Lympne has so much on offer to keep the whole family entertained throughout the day, not just animals! Explore some of the best Kentish woodland walks, while kids run around in the play parks. Or visit some of the world's oldest prehistoric animals at Dinosaur Forest! Port Lympne Hotel offers a beautiful garden and cafe and even a garden maze… Let’s hope there are no animals lurking within! Fancy visiting this fun-packed family attraction for more than one day? Have a short break with the family in the safari lodge and cabins! You can even pick what kind of animal you want to spend the night with; Giraffe Lodge, Lion Lodge or even Leopard Creek!
Southend was one of the top hotspots that our teams suggested, voted as being one of the family favourites due to how much this location has to offer - from short breaks away or a one-day adventure! Obviously, Southend is renowned for its sandy beaches and seaside attractions but there is so much more! Fun for kids whether it is getting your change together for excitement in the amusements and desperately trying to win the teddy! Or for any adrenaline junkies that get a thrill from going upside down, head to Adventure Island, Southend’s seafront theme park that caters for young children to older teenagers of course there is no excuse that the adults can’t enjoy some of the fun!
For more of a chilled day out, there are parks and garden walks, history hotspots and Southend pier where you can take in some of the best views the Southend seaside has to offer. Enjoy your fish and chips or ice cream and take in the fresh sea breeze! Another experience that you can’t miss is Southend at night! Amusements, piers and theme parks light up the skies - looks like a firework display from high above!!! Adventure Island has selected days of late evening admissions where the theme park comes to life with bright colours and flashing lights! How fun does that sound!!!
Let’s step back in time, learn the history and enjoy the farm life at Kent Life! Evolved throughout years of farming, Kent life consists of 28 acres of land that has a farmyard full of all our favourite farm animals! Open to the public, this farm is full of amazing adventures such as Donkey rides, cuddle corners, Kent Owl Academy and a family play area for kids to run around and picnic areas for the family! Not only is this fun for the whole family but there are many educational centres throughout that teach children about each animal and their habitats, get involved in the fun learning activities and even some creative arts and crafts!
