For more than 50 years, Canterbury Christ Church University has been a big part of the Kent community, providing education that makes a real and positive difference in people’s lives. National Express Transport Solution has worked with Canterbury Christchurch University since 2010 and the East Kent depot has operated shuttles since September 2019 transporting 13,500 passengers in one year.
Canterbury Christchurch University is based across multiple locations throughout Canterbury town such as the main campus, student and staff car park, library and sports centre. They required a regular shuttle service Monday to Friday to allow students and staff to travel from campus to campus. The shuttles were only required during term time.
National Express Transport Solutions provided regular shuttle services operated from our East Kent depot. A total of 16 return shuttles ran Monday to Friday 08:00 – 18:10. Daily passenger reports were provided to ensure service was being utilised and to manage the timings, vehicle size etc. Coaches were been branded and had clear visual signs and ran continuously throughout the day.
By opting for a Kingsferry-run student and staff shuttle service, CCCU has bettered the environment and saved a substantial amount of carbon emissions.
During the 2018/2019 academic year, there were between 18,000 to 22,000 rides annually, around 380-460 per week.
Kingsferry’s operation of the student and staff shuttle service across the 2018/2019 academic year resulted in the following:
Based on 84 people travelling each day, 5 days a week (Mon-Fri), 45 weeks a year.
All passenger cars are assumed to be single-occupancy cars.
Greenhouse gas emissions are expressed in Carbon Dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per passenger kilometre (km). g CO2e = grams of Carbon Dioxide equivalents. g CO2e/passenger-km for the modes of transport shown above are:
