The Kings Ferry Open Day

Published: 27th May 2022

On Saturday 21st May 2022, The Kings Ferry depot in Gillingham, Kent opened its gates to the local community and staff.

The open day was organised to help with recruitment within the local area. We had our Training team set up to talk to individuals interested in a career as a driver with The Kings Ferry and some office-based roles available. If you missed the day and are interested in our career opportunities within the National Express Group, please visit our dedicated careers website

The day was also planned to help share the story behind how The Kings Ferry is now part of National Express Transport Solutions and show off our new (shiny) vehicle that has been branded as National Express Transport Solutions!

We had activities such as; a Tombola with over 70 prizes, and a raffle in which you could win tickets to local attractions such as Howletts Zoo, Ninja Warrior, and Chatham Historic Dockyard and a family ticket to a Gillingham FC game!

We also had our VIP tours going out around Medway where visitors could experience the comfort and style of our luxury vehicles, plus the opportunity to get your name displayed on our coach display Hanover.

We had a special visitor just for the children, our very own Safety Bear showed up at the event and even enjoyed a ride on our VIP coach. We gave the opportunity for visitors to guess the Bear’s name and a name was picked at random at the end of the day… drumroll, please… TED!!

All the money raised on the day went to the Charity of the Year at National Express Transport Solutions, Help for Heroes. We raised £535 and the company is rounding that up to £600! Help for Heroes also made an appearance with a merchandise stand and their very own Army Bear.

“To everyone who volunteered on the day, I want to say a big thank you for all the work you put into organising and delivering the event. I need to add a massive shout out to Steve, who was our safety bear and did a fantastic job entertaining the kids, managing to do it without passing out in the 26-degree sunshine. Seeing you all support on the day makes me very proud to be part of this wonderful team.”
Ian Fraser, South East Managing Director
