This multi-award winning museum is one of the most famous places to go in Portsmouth and doesn’t disappoint. Roughly 19,000 historical relics have been discovered over 30 years of painstaking work by archaeologists. There’s always the opportunity to learn more about the Tudor era and seafaring tradition. Due to being underwater for 437 years, many of the artefacts are restricted to controlled temperatures in order to stop them from degrading further.
A short walk from the main entrance to the Historic Dockyard, you can gain your tickets for this unique museum at the Visitor Centre, in addition to strolling aboard other ships within the area. Portsmouth provides plenty of opportunity to learn about the Royal Navy, whether it’s their past, present or future.

Should you come during the day, however, the area is home to Gunwharf Quays Premium Retail Outlet, containing 95 designer stores, along with a 14-screen cinema and bowling alley – one of the city’s entertainment highlights. The beauty of the outlet means you can get the most from your money, as stores have up to 60% off regular prices. If shops don’t float your boat then you can hire a boat instead, a great option for families.
Discover a huge range of underwater organisms and creatures at this award-winning attraction. There are 40 exhibits, including an underwater tunnel and multiple opportunities to witness feeding time. Encounter beautiful seahorses, a tropical shark or even a deadly dart frog.
It’s one of the top places to go in Portsmouth, in particular for family entertainment and inquisitive minds. There are regular events throughout the year, including special film-release parties.
