The challenge

Harris Boys' Academy East Dulwich (HBAED) are part of Harris Federation (a group of 49 schools across London and the South East).

HBAED have no sports facilities on-site so are required to take certain year groups off-site for their PE lessons to Kings College Sports Ground. They had become unhappy with their previous supplier due to service level, driver issues, lateness and poor quality of coaches. They had also reported occasions of coaches not turning up at all with zero explanation.

The response

Our daily London Commuter services have 4 hours of downtime during service runs. This presents us with ample opportunities to utilise these vehicles for local short trips in the London area. With this in mind, to fulfil HBAED’s requirements, we were able to utilise our first commuter coach to operate the daily service prior to returning to operate on the evening commuter run.

With the knowledge of HBAED’s previous experience with coach suppliers, we ensured that no stone was left unturned and provided the client with a solution with continually high service levels. We also ensure that our 24/7 support team and on-hand Account Managers are available to deal with any issues or concerns that may arise, supporting the client throughout the period of the contract both during and outside of normal office hours.

HBAED were extremely happy with the service and pricing we provided them and subsequently, we were then invited by the Federation to complete a mini-tender where we are now a preferred coach supplier for the whole Federation. This has allowed us to start approaching other schools for their ad hoc and where possible contractual work.

Prior to lockdown, we had agreements in place to work with 3 further schools on their Sports Day, and also started speaking to them about providing transport for their annual conference. We have also been appointed by the Federation to run a Home To School contract for a new school in Wimbledon from September 2020.
